The Weston Collective’s Satellite Program at B5, 1713 Broadway Avenue in Seaside, California offers the community of Monterey County a unique opportunity to practice traditional black and white film photography. The darkroom consists of seven enlargers, two eight foot sinks, stocked chemistry, and drying racks. There is an additional developing room that is separate from the darkroom enabling the ability of printing and developing to occur simultaneously.

There is also the use of the studio space, equipped with three dry mounting presses, a print cutter, negative scanner and large tables for the dry processes of photography. Chemistry provided is Arista Premium. Please determine film development times for specific films you will be bringing in to be processed. Film development chemistry is diluted 1:9.

This is NOT a guided class. If you register, you are confirming that you know how to process film and print in the darkroom without any guidance. If you sign up but do not know how to work in the darkroom, you will be kindly asked to leave and will forfeit your tuition. If you want personalized instruction, we offer one on one tutorials in both film processing and printing in the darkroom. Chemistry and equipment is provided, all other materials are the responsibility of the artist. For arrival, please refer to the side entrance directions below.

The Darkroom

In our community darkroom you will have the ability to print high-quality silver black and white photographs. With 7 enlarger stations and an eight foot sink, there is plenty of room to create your art in a comfortable space.

The Developing Room

The Developing Room is a stand alone room specifically designed for processing film. Have the chance to develop your film free of the chance of light damage from others printing in the main darkroom. You have the ability to process 35mm, medium format and 4x5 film. Please research development times your specific film you will be bringing in to develop.

*Chemistry provided is Arista Premium. Developer has a 1:9 dilution ratio

 

Studio Rental

We have a fully functional studio set up equipped with an 10ft wide x 8.5ft high backdrop, state of the art studio lights, and various props to get your creativity going in the studio! Come in and start creating with us today!

 

Post Processing

Our community studio space contains everything necessary for post processing your black and white silver gelatin prints. We have three mount presses, a print cutter, and an array of large tables to work on. The studio space is so crucial to be able to complete the photographic process. Not only can you just print your unique prints in our darkroom but you also will have the ability to mount and spot your photographs.

If Arriving BEFORE 3:30pm (Main Parking Lot Entrance)

You will need to check in at the front office before coming to The Weston Collective. Please park in the main lot of Martin Luther King Jr. School of the Arts. Up the stairs and to the right is the main office. Just inside the office to the right there are clipboards for guests to sign in. Once you have signed in, tell the front desk you are visiting The Weston Collective and they will let you know how to get to our room. We are located in B5, basically at the end of the campus down the last hallway on the right. We are the red door on the right!


If Arriving AFTER 3:30pm (Side Entrance)

The above address will take you to the main entrance of Martin Luther King Jr. School of the Arts. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU ACCESS THE DARKROOM AND STUDIO SPACE! The entrance is located 100 yards past/before the entrance to the school (depending on the direction you are traveling). Text 831-233-2100 when you arrive at the door and Zach will let you in.

 

Coming from Carmel on Highway 1

 

Take exit 402B toward Del Monte Ave – 0.2 miles

Turn left onto English Ave – 381ft

Turn right onto Del Monte Ave - 0.6 mi

Turn right onto Broadway Ave – 1.4 mi

 

Coming from Moss Landing on Highway 1

 

Follow CA-1 S to Light fighter Dr. in Seaside. Take exit 406 from CA-1 S

Continue onto General Jim Moore Blvd - 3.6 mi

Turn Left on Broadway Ave - .15 mi

 

Coming from Salinas

 

Take W Blanco Rd to Inter-Garrison Rd - 1.3 mi

Head west on CA-183 N/E Market St toward Salinas St - 0.2 mi

Take the Davis Rd S exit on the left- 1.2 mi

Merge onto S Davis Rd - 4.6 mi

Turn right onto W Blanco Rd - 390 ft

Continue straight onto Blanco Rd - 9 min (4.5 mi)

Turn right at the 1st cross street onto Inter-Garrison Rd - 2.7 mi

At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto 8th Ave - 0.8 mi

Turn right onto Gigling Rd - 1.1 mi

Turn left onto General Jim Moore Blvd - 2.6 mi
